First as already mentionned in the forum, the domain or subdomain redirection can not work as this modify the URL.

Second if you assign another directory to you cPanel subdomain definition the older directory will not be seen anymore. So assign in cPanel the sub1.domain.com to the directory public_html/sub2 will just switch of directory.

This cannot be done with cpanel, subdomain will be assigned to the folder of the same name public_html/sub1 not public_html/sub2.

is there a way to rename the folder sub2 to sub1 and change the URL as well ?

if cPanel does not allow you to create a subdomain with an existing directory, start to rename the directory with a bak name to let cpanel create an empty directory.
Once cPanel has created the empty directory, remove it and restore the bak one.

If you have additional questions on how to use cPanel, contact your hosting provider or see the www.cpanel.net.
They also have video that will teach you how to use cPanel.

Please answer my question - what happen to site definition if the install folder (that contain the symbolic links) is renamed by FP ? I guess the paramaters are not changed in JMS ...

i understand what you are asking i would recommend you do not try this. I did finding the symbolic links and changing them is not worth the hassle. Just do it the correct way and password protect that directory till you are done so no one can access that site till your done save yourself the headace
