TOPIC: development environment?

development environment? 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I currently am working on a client website and I don't have complete control of the server/database (I basically have to ask them to do everything). They put me in a test environment.

I want to set up 2 sites that will basically share most of the info but have 2 different designs. I currently am working with one domain. How can I set this up so I can work in the testing environment?

example of the url www.company.test.123a.com

and keep in mind when we go live I'm sure I'll have to change something, right?

When you go live, you can just change the domain defined in the JMS slave site definition to use the real domain name.
Don't forget to also defined your hosting server to assign the domain with the new "document root" directory.

We also have customers that use JMS to have several versions of a same website.
They create several slave site and just have to switch the domain name when they are ready.
You can also use the JMS status in a slave site to "cancel" or "confirm" different slave site definitions.

So what kind of domain can I use in the meantime?

I set it up and put something like
www.company.test.123a.com/multisites/temp1

which is the path of the new site's config file.

but what I got was this
Index of /multisites/temp1

* Parent Directory
* cache/
* config_multisites.php

Any one.

You can for example define a slave site
Site id = slave1
domain = www.domain1.com domain1.com www.domain2.com domain2.com ...... {site_url}/multisites/{site_id}

deploy folder = {site_dir}

There is no limit.
You can enter several domain name in a same slave site ID.

The joomla configuration (configuration.php) file is created in the deploy directory.

The fies and directory you have given correspond to the one created by JMS when you don't deploy the slave site into its specific directory. (case of tutorial CP-03 www.jms2win.com/tutorial#jms12x-CP-03)

When you deploy a slave into a specific directory, you also have symbolic links (see video CP-04)

Well, it turns out that when I went to see settings it said Unix Symbolic Links: Forbidden

since I don't have access to the control panel I have to tell the people what I need done.

What should I communicate to them. They didn't understand symboic link.-

edit---
I got it working. I had to change permissions of temp and log.
