TOPIC: Flexicontent vs K2
#2965
Flexicontent vs K2 14 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi there,

I 'm considerating a multi-site content sharing architecture for my client.

Both Flexicontent and K2 are very great extensions. And I believe Flexicontent will win in the long run because of its more "flexible" architecture and universal plugin system.

However, I know currently only K2 is sharable between sites.

At this point, I need to plan go for "K2" OR "Flexicontent"

May you advise me whether Flexicontent will also be added to the "sharable" extension in near future?

Many thanks.

Fliexicontent CAN NOT be shared.
Its interactions with the core joomla table does not allow to share it or this would results by sharing the whole website.

This is not the case with K2 that is less binded with the core joomla MySQL tables..

Thanks for your advice.

Pls clarify that if I want to share the Flexicontent, the only option is to share the whole site. Is it true?

Thanks.

If you share the whole site (that is an option available in JMS", in fact you have a single DB with exactly the same table prefix (in fact the same content for everything).
The only thing that is different is the "configuration.php" files that can have a different title.
When you deploy a slave site into a specific directory, it is also possible to create different "templates" directory to change the content of the slave site (not the default template selected).

I'm confused on this. I'm using JMS and Flexicontent right now and it's working really well. BUT - I'm using the Article Sharing component in conjunction with JMS and Flexi.

The only trouble I'm having is displaying a third-level list of content (neither category blog nor list works) on the slave site. I get the headline and no content.

I realize JMS supports K2, but I didn't want to modify the Joomla core tables - especially with 1.6 on the horizon.

Thanks for such a great component that solved a really complex design problem! Just one more step and we'll have achieved perfection!!

Best,
Nicole
