If you let the "deploy folder" empty then the directory is your master directory.
So nothing deployed.
This is not what you are describing as you deployed something and there you have a wrong symbolic link.
Or you try deploying the slave site in the master directory where the "multisites" directory is a physical directory and not a symbolic link.
