TOPIC: backup?

backup? 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
hello,

I am going to embark on the adventure and launch a joomla community that I intend to redirect to 2 other websites.

I am considering JMS.
It is very attractive as it would save a lot of time deling with updates / maintenance.

nevertheless I am worried with the backup possibilities.

I have tried Joomlapack before on a single joomla website and it worked fine.
I have read bad comments on joomlapack + JMS.

is there any way to backup the whole thing (master + slaves + DB) without running into trouble? (I was thinking of a dump of the whole database in phpmyadmin -easy- but I have no clues on how to backup the website's files as I am certainly not going to download every single file 1 by 1 via ftp...)

thanks!

I have replied several time the procedure that I use personnally for the backup / restore

For the DB, I use PHPMyAdmin (export / export) to Backup / restore the DB.
It works correctly and also perform a correct backup of the view.

For the files, I use a unix command from a SSH termin
tar -cvf <tarname> <dirname> this backup (C)reate (V)erbous (F)ilename
tar -xvf <tarname> this restore e(X)tract (V)erbous (F)ilename

This will create tar file that you can compress with gzip
