Would the menu item extension help me with this?

I want to have a few links on the top of my page, across all slaves. I would like to create this menu just once. Also I would like the ability to add a new item later and it will update across the other sites.

Is this how this works? Can this be added to slaves that are already setup or only to new slaves being created?

NO this will not help.

The menu item will NOT be automatically declared (added) into all the websites.

If you want to have a kind of shared menu, the only current solution is to replcate the menu by a Custom HTML and use in the other website the "Multisites Custom HTML" to get this "shared" definition.
