Upgrading Joomla to new version 16 Years, 2 Months ago

Hi,
I have Joomla 1.5.8, and I was wondering how to upgrade to J1.5.9.
Do I do this as normal?
And do the slave sites need to be upgraded also? (Slave is a symbolic link)
Cheers

When upgrading from Joomla 1.5.x to 1.5.Y, it is strongly adviced to un-install the JMS patches because it may happen that Joomla restore few files that are patched by JMS and therefore create an inconsistency environment.
We have noticed that Joomla 1.5.9 restore some "unchanged" files that are patches by JMS and may cause problem to login or access the website when JMS patches are not un-installed.
This is related to the patch that allow to keep the "installation" directory.
So when the JMS patches are un-install, you can proceed as usual with Joomla un-tar or unzip and once it is upgraded, you can re-install the JMS patches.

This is not always the case but this is a secure method.
That mainly depends on the current Joomla installed and depends also of the new Joomla version.
In the past we had sometime problem with Joomla fix that may restore some files original files that have disturbed JMS that want to have a consistency set of patches.
The best way to know is to perform the test individually on a copy of the website before reproducing it in production.
The update of Joomla 1.5.12 to 1.5.13 or 1.5.14 does not have problems.
By security, it always advised to perform a backup of the website that is in production.
